As you may have noticed, the library staff has added a few terrific new faces, while I (Lori Swim) have stayed on for a bit to help with training and transition. Check out the staff page to read more about our newly hired library assistants! Sadly, tomorrow will be my last day at the library as we prepare to move to Kansas City next week.

I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to serve our community and help nurture the library. I’ve truly enjoyed my time here. Our family has grown and learned much during our time in Marysville, and we will certainly always treasure our memories. The library figures as the main source of entertainment and education for our children as they grew.

Many exciting things are in store for the library! Besides bringing Cindy Higgins to the library, I also had the privilege of developing 12 brand-new early literacy kits designed for children as young as babies to six years old. Soon they will be cataloged and ready for check-out. Each kit consists of 5-6 items in a handy ready-to-go plastic tote. Most kits include an educational toy or game and several books. A tip-sheet helps with suggestions for extended learning and enrichment. A small “guestbook” allows you to leave your own ideas for other parents and library staff. You could also share what your child enjoyed most in the kit or special memories.

Treat Dad with an early Father’s Day gift with a presentation about an topic he’ll love…beer! Cindy Higgins from the Kansas Humanities Council will be presenting ‘Kansas Brewers and Breweries’ on Sunday, June 9 at 2 pm. Hope to see you there!

Summer Reading Fever, Dig into Reading!

Starting next Tuesday, May 28th, come on into the library and sign up for “Dig into Reading” our Summer Reading Program for 2013 to be held from June 11th to June 18th. Our weekly schedule is as follows:

Tuesdays
10:15am, 3- and 4-year-olds
11:15am, 5- and 6-year-olds

Thursdays
10:15, 1st- and 2nd-Graders
11:15, 3rd- and 4th-Graders

You won’t want to miss the exciting opportunity to win prizes! If you are in 1st through 4th grade, build a small replica of your imaginary fairy or gnome house and bring it into the library no later than June 13th to enter this contest. If you have any questions, be sure to give us a call!

Books Over Coffee

We’re excited to introduce our newest event at the library: Books Over Coffee, a morning coffee and book club. Starting on Friday, May 3 at 10:30 pm, we’ll be hosting a book club and coffee klatch every first Friday of the month. This month, we’ll be discussing ‘The Faith Club’ by Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Pricilla Warner. Haven’t read that book and don’t plan to? Bring your favorite book to share and discuss!
